In a letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko confirmed that his resignation took effect from April 10, 2026.

He explained that growing speculation about his political alignment prompted him to clarify his position, noting that he had already distanced himself from party activities for some time.

Mimiko stated that his decision was made without any ill feelings, emphasizing that his exit from the party was peaceful and personal.

The former governor, who led Ondo State between 2009 and 2016, has largely remained inactive in frontline politics in recent years.
