One Dead As Rival Groups Claim Ownership Of Lagos Central Mosque

At least one person has been confirmed dead after a violent clash between two rival groups over the ownership of the Donga Central Mosque in Taraba State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed on X that the incident occurred Tuesday evening when members of the Izala Jos sect and the Danburam family allegedly attempted to forcefully access the disputed mosque.

Police, having received intelligence on the planned confrontation, reportedly summoned both groups and warned them against actions that could disturb public peace. Security operatives were also deployed to the area to prevent violence.

Despite these efforts, the rivals gathered in large numbers, armed with dane guns, cutlasses, and stones, resulting in a deadly confrontation. Officers used smoke grenades to disperse the crowd, but one person—identified as Biliya Zakari from Asibiti Ward—was killed. A nearby temporary structure was also destroyed during the unrest.
