Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly attempted to invade a military residential estate in Abuja in what was believed to be a failed kidnapping and robbery operation.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Army Post Service Housing Estate in Kurudu, Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, about seven armed men entered a compound within the estate with the intention of abducting a resident, believed to be a prominent business figure.

The attackers were however met with swift resistance after soldiers stationed within the estate, alongside police operatives from the Kurudu Divisional Police Post, responded to distress alerts raised by residents.

A gun battle reportedly ensued, during which one of the assailants was killed, while another escaped with gunshot injuries. The remaining suspects fled the scene in disarray through the rear of the estate.

Security sources said the operation successfully foiled the attempted abduction and prevented further harm to residents within the estate.
It was also gathered that the suspected target of the attack was a high-profile businessman residing in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
