Residents of Achida community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State have repelled a bandit attack in what observers describe as a rare but coordinated act of community self-defence.
The incident was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited local and security sources. According to the report, armed bandits invaded the community but were met with stiff resistance from residents and local vigilante groups.

Villagers reportedly mobilised quickly and confronted the attackers, forcing them to retreat after a brief exchange. One suspected bandit was killed during the clash, while others fled the scene, with some believed to have sustained injuries.
Sources said the swift response of the residents and vigilantes played a key role in preventing what could have escalated into a more serious attack.
Security authorities are expected to intensify patrols in the area and launch follow-up operations to track down fleeing suspects and prevent possible reprisals.
The development mirrors a similar incident months ago in Bimasa, Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where residents also fought back against bandits, rescuing kidnapped victims and recovering stolen livestock.
Community leaders have since commended the bravery of Achida residents but warned of potential retaliatory attacks, urging the government to strengthen local security presence and support community defence efforts.
