Osun Govt Accuses APC of Spreading Fake News Over Road Project
The Osun State Government has dismissed a report linking a badly damaged road to the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying the project was actually constructed during the tenure of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolawole Bello, said the road featured in the newspaper report was not located in Modakeke as claimed, but at Mukoro, Ile-Ife.
“The bad road published on the front page of the newspaper today was constructed by the Oyetola administration, not the Adeleke government, and the road is located at Mukoro, Ile-Ife, not Modakeke,” the statement read.
The government also argued that none of the road projects initiated by the Adeleke administration had reached the stage shown in the published photograph, particularly the lane markings visible on the road.
“The road initiated by the Adeleke administration has not reached the level of lane marking shown in the published road. The publication is therefore simply fake news,” it added.
The Adeleke administration maintained that it had been focused on repairing and improving infrastructure projects inherited from the previous government.
It accused the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to blame the current administration for defects in projects completed under the Oyetola government.
“The Adeleke administration has been doing a lot of remediation and corrective work on several projects inherited from the Oyetola administration. The attempt of Osun APC to push its defects on the Adeleke government is therefore deceitful,” Bello said.
The state government urged residents to verify information independently, insisting that the road in question was completed during Oyetola’s tenure.
The dispute comes amid increased political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, with the ruling party and opposition groups trading accusations over governance, infrastructure and security.
The development also follows recent violence in parts of the state, with opposition parties criticising the government’s handling of security issues.
Governor Adeleke had recently accused some actors of allowing extrajudicial killings in the state and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area, Adeleke urged the President to ensure peace and fairness ahead of the election, while warning against any attempt to manipulate the poll.
“Osun will not agree. We want a free and fair election,” the governor said, adding that the people of the state would resist any form of electoral malpractice.
