“Palace Politics Heat Up: Kwankwaso Teases Sanusi’s Homecoming in Kano”

There is a palpable sense of unease as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, asserts that the establishment of the five emirates councils will “definitely be reexamined.”

Kwankwaso indicates that the removal of Alhaji Muhammad Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano is likely to be scrutinized by the current administration under Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In an interview with select media platforms on the evening of Thursday, January 18, Kwankwaso asserts that the NNPP government will thoroughly review the entire matter to rectify the alleged wrongs. Notably, Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano state and the incumbent national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi.

Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been the subject of reinstatement discussions following the recent Supreme Court affirmation of the NNPP’s victory. Kwankwaso comments, “Honestly, it is one of the things that nobody has discussed with me so far, but I am sure we are going to sit down and consider how to proceed. Whether it will be allowed, dismantled, corrected, or whatever – it will be reevaluated, and what needs to be done will be done.”

He further reflects on the circumstances, stating, “There were a lot of things, and this was a trap. All these actions were not executed with good faith or intention. They were carried out with some malicious intentions, as everyone here and our listeners are aware of.”

Kwankwaso acknowledges the complexities of decision-making, stating, “Sometimes you propose things with good intentions, and they turn out to be bad, while at other times, you bring forward things that seem negative, and they turn out to be positive. So, all I know is that I have not been consulted as of now, but we will certainly convene to discuss and determine the course of action.”

Aside from his unwavering loyalty to Kwankwso, Governor Yusuf openly affirms that his administration is an extension of Kwankwaso’s government. Aminu Ado Bayero assumed the throne of the Emir of Kano on March 9, 2020, succeeding his nephew Sanusi, who was deposed by Ganduje.
