The Nigeria Immigration Service announced on Friday that, barring unforeseen technical challenges, Nigerian passport applicants can expect to receive their passports within three weeks from the date of application submission. The disclosure was made by the newly confirmed Comptroller General, Mrs Caroline Adepoju, during the unveiling of the Igbogbo Passport Front Office in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Mrs Adepoju emphasized the importance of aligning application details with those registered with the National Identity Management Commission, as the national identity numbers would be linked to the passports. She assured applicants that, under normal circumstances, the entire process, from application to passport production, should be completed within three weeks.
Additionally, she advised individuals with passports nearing expiration to apply for renewal at least six months before expiry to avoid complications, as some countries may deny visas to passports with less than six months’ validity. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner Ibrahim Layode, commended the siting of the Igbogbo passport office, emphasizing the Federal Government’s commitment to providing world-class services.
The Igbogbo passport office, with a capacity for 200 applicants, received support and requests for further upgrades from the local council and community leaders. The Governor’s representative urged the Comptroller General to consider upgrading the facility to a full passport office for in-house production. The Igbogbo community leaders assured maximum security for the facility and pledged their support for the Immigration Service’s smooth operations.
