#Pastor and 5 others killed as suspected Boko Haram terrorists launch fresh attack in Yobe

A pastor, Luka Levong, from the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) in Kwari, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe state, along with five others, were killed in an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the state.

According to reports, the assailants entered the community around 2:00 am on Friday and fatally shot the pastor and the church treasurer, Maina Abdullahi. Some residents mentioned that the attackers also set numerous houses on fire in the community.

As of now, neither the military nor the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has commented on the incident, and attempts to reach them for a statement have been unsuccessful.

Geidam is situated 177 kilometers away from Damaturu, the state capital, and approximately 40 kilometers from the Nigeria/Niger Republic border.

This incident follows a recent Boko Haram attack in a neighboring Yobe State community, where 12 people were killed, and two others were injured. The earlier attack occurred in the Gartamawa community of Chibok Local Government Area, which is 125 kilometers from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

During the New Year celebration, terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the Gatamarwa community around 5 pm, targeting mourners returning from Gatamarwa. The attackers, arriving on motorcycles and Hilux vans, later assaulted the Tsiha community near Shikarkir, killing three people, abducting a young lady, and destroying houses while looting foodstuffs, according to a source cited by Channels Television.

Since the group’s insurgency began in 2009, at least 40,000 people have been killed, and over two million others have been displaced. The conflict has expanded into neighboring Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, leading to the establishment of a regional military force to counter the militants.
