The 79-year-old, who has led the club for more than two decades across two separate terms, received about 65% of the votes in the election, according to the club’s announcement. Following his victory, Pérez stated that the club would continue its mission of winning trophies and maintaining its status as one of football’s most successful sides.

The result is also expected to pave the way for a major managerial change, with former manager José Mourinho set to return to the Santiago Bernabéu. Reports suggest an official announcement could come as early as Monday, marking his second spell in charge more than a decade after his first tenure.

Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup during a highly competitive period against Barcelona under Pep Guardiola. His return is seen as a bold decision following a trophyless 2025/26 season for the club.

According to reports, Real Madrid may pay a release clause of around €15 million to secure Mourinho from his current role at Benfica.

During his victory speech, Pérez also reaffirmed his commitment to the club’s tradition of member ownership and expressed confidence in future success, including ambitions to win a record European title.
