PFIPC HAS NO CBN ACCOUNT, AGF CONTRADICTS PRESIDENCY

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has stated that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) does not operate any account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), contradicting earlier claims that suggested otherwise.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the OAGF said the council never completed the necessary requirements for the opening of a CBN account and, therefore, no account was created in its name.

The office also clarified that although the PFIPC applied for self-accounting status, it failed to meet all the conditions required before such approval could be finalised.

According to the OAGF, no funds have been released to the council, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.

The clarification comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the existence and operations of the PFIPC, which the Presidency had earlier disowned, describing it as a non-existent agency.

The Accountant-General’s Office maintained that all due processes must be completed before any government agency can operate an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria or receive public funds.

The latest development adds another layer to the controversy over the PFIPC, with government institutions giving differing accounts regarding the council’s status and operations.
