Police operatives in Kano have apprehended a fake doctor, Chidera Ugwu, accused of administering injections and drugs to a pregnant teenager, leading to her tragic demise.
According to a statement signed by the police spokesman in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrest followed a report from Nura Balarabe. Balarabe informed the police that 19-year-old Ukasha Muhammed, a resident of Langel village in Tofa Local Government Area, allegedly impregnated his (Balarabe’s) sister, Amina, 19, and sought the assistance of the fake doctor.
The statement disclosed that Ugwu, a 24-year-old resident of Lanbum Banki in Tofa LGA, administered the injection with the intention of aborting the pregnancy, but it tragically led to the death of Amina. Kiyawa stated that the suspects were apprehended and confessed to the crime.
Police investigation uncovered that the fake doctor had been administering injections to pregnant women, resulting in dire consequences.
In a separate incident, the police also arrested a notorious thug, Yusuf Haruna, accused of murdering an Imam in Jakara quarters, Kano city. The 18-year-old suspect, known as Lagwatsani, allegedly stabbed Imam Malam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu in the back while he was performing ablution. The statement revealed that the Imam had previously warned the suspect and his gang to refrain from smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.
The victim, who suffered a deep injury from the attack, was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. The police intervened to save the suspect from an angry mob and took him into custody.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, urged the public to be patient as the police conduct a thorough investigation into the crimes.
