Police Orders Nationwide NHF Data Verification for Officers, Civilian Staff
The Nigeria Police Force has directed all commands, formations and affiliated units across the country to support a nationwide National Housing Fund (NHF) data capture and verification exercise aimed at updating the records of police personnel and ensuring smooth processing of housing fund refunds after retirement.
The directive was contained in a confidential police wireless message dated July 27, 2026, obtained by SaharaReporters.
The signal, marked “M/Immediate” and referenced CV:9005/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.17/95, was issued from the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat in Abuja and circulated to senior officers and strategic formations nationwide.
Recipients include the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations Support, the Department of Operations, Police Mobile Force, Police Intelligence Bureau, Technical Intelligence Unit, Special Task Force, Monitoring Unit, as well as police liaison offices attached to agencies including the National Assembly, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), JAMB and several other departments.
According to the message, the directive followed an earlier communication from the Nigeria Police National Housing Fund Project Office at Force Headquarters after discussions with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
The engagement focused on improving NHF registration, cleaning up contributor records, reconciling contributions, verifying contributors and ensuring retired police personnel receive their housing fund refunds without unnecessary delays.
The exercise will also cover eligible civilian staff and teachers working within the Nigeria Police system.
Police authorities said the project has reached a critical stage that requires physical verification across the country.
A joint team made up of officials from the Nigeria Police National Housing Fund Project and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria has therefore been assigned to carry out the nationwide verification exercise from August 3 to August 17, 2026.
The exercise is expected to physically verify contributors, update existing NHF records, create a reliable database and support the timely payment of eligible NHF refunds after retirement.
To make the process easier, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria has provided a dedicated online portal where officers and other eligible personnel can update or register their details.
The Inspector-General of Police Secretariat directed all commands and formations to publicise the exercise widely, ensure officers are informed and treat the directive as a matter of urgent importance.
The signal concluded by instructing all recipients to take the necessary steps to ensure the successful implementation of the nationwide verification exercise.
