Some police officers attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, over the alleged prolonged absence of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ngozi Braide, from her duty post.
The officers, who identified themselves as “Concerned Officers”, alleged that Braide had been away from her official station for about three months and accused the management of the FCID Annex of failing to take action over the matter.
In the petition titled “Petition on the Alleged Chronic Absence from Duty of ACP Ngozi Braide and Failure of Supervision at FCID Annex Alagbon,” the officers urged the IGP to investigate whether the senior officer travelled outside Nigeria without obtaining the required approval from relevant police authorities.
They said her alleged absence had affected supervision, discipline and the smooth running of operations at the command.
“It is our respectful observation that ACP Ngozi Braide, who is assigned to perform supervisory duties at FCID Annex, has allegedly been consistently absent from her duty post for a period of three months,” the petition stated.
The petitioners further claimed that Braide may have travelled abroad without official authorisation, adding that such conduct, if proven, would amount to a breach of police regulations.
They expressed concern that the alleged absence of a supervising officer had placed additional responsibilities on other officers who remained at work.
The officers also criticised what they described as the failure of the supervisory authority at FCID Alagbon to address the situation, saying the perceived inaction could weaken morale and create the impression that some officers were above disciplinary standards.
They stressed that all members of the Nigeria Police Force, regardless of rank or position, should be held accountable under the same rules.
The petitioners asked the IGP to order an independent investigation into the allegations, including a review of Braide’s attendance records, movement register, leave documents and other official records relating to her posting.
They also requested that any officer found guilty of misconduct should face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the Nigeria Police Act 2020, Police Regulations and Public Service Rules.
The officers said their petition was not aimed at targeting any individual but was intended to promote accountability, fairness and discipline within the police force.
They urged the IGP to intervene and ensure that professional standards were maintained across all ranks of the Nigeria police Force.
