PRESIDENCY REJECTS PETER OBI’S CLAIMS, ACCUSES HIM OF SERIAL FALSEHOODS, NATIONAL PATRIOTS CAUTIONS ON DISTRACTING GOVERNANCE

The Presidency has denied allegations by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, that the Federal Government is deliberately targeting him.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi’s claims as inaccurate and misleading, alleging that they were intended to gain public sympathy.

Onanuga dismissed Obi’s assertion that he became a target of the government following an incident involving his vehicle at an airport, explaining that the issue was linked to a violation of parking regulations rather than any political motive.

He further accused the former Anambra State governor of attributing personal inconveniences to the government without evidence.

The presidential aide also rejected Obi’s claims that his life could be at risk before the January 2027 election and that individuals were being discouraged from inviting him to public or private events.

According to Onanuga, such allegations are unfounded and are aimed at shifting attention from challenges facing Obi’s political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The Presidency also refuted suggestions that Fidelity Bank was facing pressure from the Federal Government because of Obi’s alleged connection to the financial institution. Onanuga stated that the bank continues to benefit from the administration’s economic policies and is not being targeted.

Reaffirming the government’s position, the Presidency said the Tinubu administration remains committed to implementing its reform agenda and has no intention of being distracted by political accusations.
