According to a statement issued by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the late journalist was deployed from NAN to the Presidential Villa in 2014 and served under the administrations of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as President Tinubu.

Tinubu praised Onwubuariri as an accomplished journalist who reported extensively on major national and international matters, including politics, foreign affairs, finance and telecommunications. He also noted the late media aide’s professionalism, sound judgment and understanding of the relationship between government and the press.

Before joining the Presidential Villa, Onwubuariri rose through the ranks at NAN and later became an Assistant Editor-in-Chief, contributing significantly to the agency’s editorial operations.

The President said the late journalist’s service across three administrations reflected his competence, integrity and dedication to national service. He added that Onwubuariri would be remembered for his diligence, experience and contributions to journalism and public administration.

Tinubu extended condolences to the deceased’s wife, children, family members, colleagues and friends, praying for strength for those left behind and eternal rest for the departed.
