Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew has been transferred from the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) detention facility to the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja following his arrest in Osun State.
According to sources familiar with the development, Adeyemi spent two days in IRT custody before being moved to the cybercrime facility. However, the police have not disclosed the reason for the transfer or released an official statement regarding his arrest or the status of the investigation.
The development comes shortly after Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi over allegations that he demanded a 48 percent kickback from a proposed ₦27.3 billion take-off grant for a federal agency.
In the suit, Gbajabiamila is seeking ₦10 billion in general damages, ₦5 billion in aggravated damages, ₦200 million as litigation costs, and a court order directing Adeyemi to publish a retraction and apology in five national newspapers and on all his social media platforms for 30 days.
Gbajabiamila, through his legal representatives, described the allegations as false and defamatory, insisting that he has never met or communicated with Adeyemi and never authorized anyone to demand money on his behalf.
Court documents indicate that Adeyemi had alleged during a press conference that he paid ₦400 million through an intermediary and was later asked to pay an additional ₦200 million to facilitate presidential approvals.
However, the Chief of Staff maintained that he had no personal or official relationship with Adeyemi and denied requesting or receiving any financial benefit.
The court filings also stated that Adeyemi admitted during an interview with social media personality VeryDarkMan that he had never met Gbajabiamila in person and had not independently verified the identity of the individual he believed was acting on behalf of the Chief of Staff.
Despite that admission, the suit alleges that Adeyemi repeated the claims during a television interview on July 13, 2026.
Gbajabiamila further disclosed that Adeyemi is currently facing criminal charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations including forgery, impersonation and operating a government agency that authorities say does not exist.
According to court documents, Adeyemi allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency has stated is non-existent.
He had also accused the Chief of Staff of demanding a 48 percent kickback from the agency’s proposed take-off grant, an allegation Gbajabiamila has consistently denied.
