PSC DISMISSES THREE SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS, DEMOTES 16 OVER MISCONDUCT

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers over established cases of serious misconduct and behaviour considered unbecoming of officers of the law.

The commission also approved the demotion of 16 officers, while 21 others received severe reprimands and two were issued ordinary reprimands.

The Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, disclosed the disciplinary decisions in a statement following the commission’s plenary meeting in Abuja.

According to the statement, three officers were cleared of allegations of wrongdoing, while some officers who had previously been suspended were reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.

The decisions were reached during a plenary meeting presided over by the PSC Chairman, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, the commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.

Reaffirming the commission’s commitment to maintaining discipline within the police force, Argungu stressed that the PSC would not tolerate corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, or other forms of professional misconduct.

He assured Nigerians that the commission would continue to ensure the speedy handling of disciplinary cases brought before it.

The PSC chairman also commended the Chairman of the commission’s Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, alongside other board members and senior officials, for their dedication in reviewing the disciplinary cases and appeals.

Those commended included retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, retired Justice Christine Dabup, Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Director of the Police Discipline Department, Mr Ferdinand U. Ekpe.

The commission said their contributions were instrumental in the departmental, committee and plenary reviews that led to the decisions.

The latest disciplinary action underscores the PSC’s stated commitment to accountability and professional conduct within the Nigeria Police Force.
