The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the formation of its national assembly primary election and appeal committees as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, the committees will supervise the conduct of primaries across all states to ensure orderliness and compliance with internal party guidelines. Party officials also urged members and stakeholders to maintain transparency, fairness, and peaceful engagement throughout the process.
For Rivers state, Wahab Owokoniran, a former local government chairman in Lagos, was appointed as chairman of the primary election committee, while Musa Diko will lead the appeal committee.

Other members of the Rivers primary election committee include Abdullahi Candido, Tony Onu, Sulaiman Sadik, Moses Alokpa, and Samuel Danjuma, with Sunny Omotola serving as secretary. The appeal committee comprises Baushe Isah, Audu Elias, Abgoola Dabiri, and Oyinade Nathan-March.
The development comes amid reports that three serving members of the House of Representatives aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara were not cleared to take part in the APC primaries. The lawmakers affected are Anderson Alisson, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead, all of whom previously supported Fubara during the political crisis in Rivers state before joining the APC with him.

Meanwhile, allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, were approved to contest in the primaries. Those cleared include Hart Cyril, Blessing Amadi, Dumnamene Dekor, Martin Amaewhule, Solomon Bob, Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Victor Obuzor.

Amaewhule, who serves as a factional speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with Wike, is expected to replace Kingsley Chinda, who had earlier obtained the party’s governorship nomination form.
Wike had recently visited the APC national chairman in Abuja, days after dozens of pro-Fubara aspirants seeking seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly were disqualified from contesting under the party platform.
