#Security Shake-Up: Three Nigerian Soldiers Detained for Alleged Theft of 374 Ammunition Rounds in Maiduguri

Military Arrests Three Soldiers in Maiduguri for Ammo Theft, While Imo State Police Unravel Killers in Major Breakthrough

In a startling development, three soldiers have been apprehended in Maiduguri, Borno State, for their alleged involvement in the theft of ammunition during a covert operation conducted by troops of Operation Desert Sanity. The covert mission targeted motor parks along Njimtilo Road, resulting in the arrest of the soldiers who were reportedly en route to Markudi and Abuja. Notably, one of the soldiers ingeniously concealed the pilfered ammunition within a bag of rice, underscoring the audacity and creativity involved in such illicit activities within military ranks. As investigations unfold, the suspects are currently held in custody for further examination.

Simultaneously, in a related and groundbreaking development in Imo State, the police authorities have successfully apprehended the suspected killers of a Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area. This achievement follows relentless efforts by law enforcement agencies and security operatives, culminating in the invasion of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) camp at Umuohie in Ngor Okpala LGA. The operation not only dislodged numerous terrorists but also resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, shed light on the multifaceted operation during a press conference at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital. He highlighted the commitment of the police and other security operatives in unraveling the perpetrators behind the heinous acts that claimed the lives of the DPO and Inspector on November 27.

The suspects, evidently linked to various criminal activities ranging from terrorism and armed robbery to murder and unlawful possession of firearms, were paraded at the Command Headquarters. A meticulous inventory of confiscated items includes 18 assault rifles, five AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and a staggering 359 rounds of ammunition. The haul also comprised six vehicles, motorcycles, charms, military camouflage, and other incriminatory items.

The breakthrough in the investigation marks a significant achievement for police operatives, the Joint Task Force (JTF), and troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, who diligently combed the scene of the crime since November 27. This successful operation not only delivers justice for the fallen officers but serves as a powerful testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in upholding security and combating criminal elements.
