SENEGAL AFCON WALKOUT TRIGGERS NEW FIFA RULE AHEAD OF 2026 WORLD CUP

FIFA has warned teams participating in the 2026 World Cup that any side that walks off the pitch during a match will face strict punishment, including an automatic 3-0 defeat.

Under the newly approved regulations, players involved in a walkout will also receive red cards, while coaches or officials who encourage such actions could face suspensions and additional disciplinary measures.

The decision comes after controversy surrounding the recent Africa Cup of Nations final, where Senegal reportedly abandoned the match in protest over officiating decisions. The incident later led to disciplinary action that awarded Morocco a technical victory.

According to reports, the International Football Association Board approved the tougher rules to stop teams from using walkouts as a strategy to influence referees or disrupt matches. FIFA officials said maintaining discipline and protecting the integrity of the expanded 48-team World Cup remains a top priority.

The updated regulations also introduce penalties for players who cover their mouths while speaking to referees or opponents, as football authorities attempt to crack down on hidden discriminatory remarks during games.
