SOWORE: COURT RESERVES RULING ON BAIL APPLICATION, TO REMAIN IN KUJE PRISON TILL JUNE 30.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, will remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre until June 30 after a Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned proceedings on his application challenging the revocation of his bail.

Justice Mohammed Umar fixed June 30 for the ruling on Sowore’s motion seeking to set aside the court’s earlier decision revoking his bail and issuing a warrant for his arrest. The court did not grant immediate relief, meaning the activist will remain in detention pending the outcome of the application.

Sowore was remanded following allegations that he breached the conditions of his bail. His legal team has argued that there were valid reasons for his absence from previous court proceedings and is urging the court to restore his bail.

The case has attracted significant public attention, with supporters and civil society groups expressing concern over his continued detention. The matter is linked to charges filed against the activist under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.

With the court reserving its decision until June 30, all eyes will be on the Federal High Court as it determines whether Sowore will regain his freedom pending the continuation of his trial.
