#SPORTS: Government Recognition Promised by Shettima as Super Eagles Advance to 2024 AFCON Final (VIDEO)

Vice President Kashim Shettima met with the Super Eagles after their triumph over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, assuring them of a Federal Government reward for their “commitment and dedication.”

The Super Eagles shared this news through an official statement and photos on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, the Nigerian team secured their spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final by defeating South Africa 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time. They will now face Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday.

In the released statement, it was conveyed, “The Federal Government has pledged to acknowledge the Super Eagles for their dedication in reaching the AFCON final in Cote d’Ivoire.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed pride in their achievement during a visit to the dressing room after the hard-fought victory.

Accompanying the Vice President were Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Minister for Youths Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, oil mogul Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau. Nigeria, with 15 appearances, holds the record for the highest number of AFCON semi-final appearances.
