#Sprint to Success: Kenya’s Bernard Sang Claims Victory in Lagos Marathon 2024

Bernard Sang, representing Kenya, emerged as the champion of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2024, surpassing approximately 80 elite marathoners in the 9th edition held on Saturday morning. Completing the 42km race in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds, Sang secured the top spot, outpacing fellow Kenyan runners Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, who finished second and third, earning $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.

Having previously participated in 2023 and securing a third-place finish, Sang’s impressive performance marked a significant victory. Kebene Chala, a 25-year-old athlete from Ethiopia, claimed the top position among women, crossing the finish line first and winning a $50,000 prize.

Both the male and female winners earned qualification for the marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Shehu Muazu achieved the title of the first Nigerian to complete the race, earning a N1 million cash prize. The 42km race commenced at the National Stadium in Surulere and concluded at Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
