Dr. Martin Aghaji, the personal physician of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has been released after spending a short period in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, the retired professor was arrested at his residence in Enugu State during an early morning operation. He alleged that security operatives forced their way into the property, damaged the entrance gate, and fired gunshots before taking the doctor away.

Ejimakor initially claimed the arrest was connected to a medical report Dr. Aghaji had issued on Nnamdi Kanu, which reportedly differed from an earlier assessment by the DSS. He described the action as part of ongoing harassment against the medical practitioner.

However, the DSS dismissed the allegation, insisting that Dr. Aghaji’s arrest had no connection with Kanu or the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The agency stated that the retired professor was being investigated over alleged financial transactions involving individuals identified as high-profile criminal suspects.

The DSS spokesperson confirmed that Dr. Aghaji was later granted administrative bail after providing a suitable surety and was released into the custody of the leadership of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Lagos.

A security official also maintained that the investigation was based solely on the alleged financial dealings and not on the doctor’s professional relationship with Nnamdi Kanu or any medical report related to the IPOB leader.
