TECH SCHOLARSHIP EQUIPS YOUTHS FOR DIGITAL ECONOMY

Thirty young Nigerians have graduated from the inaugural cohort of the Idris Aregbe Tech Scholarship Programme, a digital skills initiative aimed at equipping participants with practical technology training and expanding access to opportunities in the digital economy.

According to a statement on Monday, the programme delivered intensive, hands-on training across key technology areas to prepare participants for careers in an increasingly digital-driven world.Organisers said the initiative is designed to help close Nigeria’s digital skills gap and enable young people to compete in global technology and innovation markets.

The training was delivered with support from partners including aiNova Africa and Remostart, which contributed to the programme’s development and execution, according to a statement issued on Monday by aiNova Africa’s Managing Partner, Damilare Fakorede.

At the graduation ceremony, iGadgets awarded a laptop to the most outstanding participant in recognition of exceptional performance during the programme.

Fakorede said the initiative highlights the importance of expanding access to digital and artificial intelligence skills across the continent.“Supporting this initiative aligns with our commitment to democratising access to digital skills and AI capabilities across Africa,” he said.“The quality of talent we have seen in this cohort reinforces a simple truth: when young people are given the right tools and training, they can compete at a global level.”

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of iGadgets, Okedele Anuoluwapo Tiwalade, said access to devices remains critical to enabling continued learning and career growth.

“At iGadgets, we believe access to the right devices can accelerate opportunity,” he said. “Rewarding the most promising student with a laptop is our way of supporting their next phase.”

Convener of the programme, Idris Aregbe, said the scholarship forms part of a broader effort to equip young Nigerians with the skills, exposure and confidence needed to succeed in the digital economy.

He added that the graduation of the first cohort marks a key milestone, with plans to expand the programme to reach more young people in future editions.
