A fresh video released by the terrorists who abducted pupils and teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has revealed what they claim are their actual demands.
In the footage, one of the abducted school principals, Mrs. Alamu, dismissed reports circulating online that the kidnappers were demanding a huge ransom, weapons, or the implementation of Sharia law.
According to her, the captors presented them with reports containing those claims and insisted that the information was inaccurate. She explained that the group’s primary demand is the release of some of their detained members and the commencement of negotiations.
Mrs. Alamu appealed to the public and authorities not to politicize the situation, warning that the spread of misleading information could hinder efforts to secure the freedom of the abducted victims.
The development comes amid earlier reports alleging that the kidnappers had demanded the release of detained terrorist commanders, financial ransom, vehicles, and the enforcement of Sharia-related laws before releasing those in captivity.
Investigations indicate that some of the individuals reportedly being requested for release are alleged leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group, a faction linked to Boko Haram. The suspects were arrested in 2025 and are currently facing terrorism-related charges before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Security officials involved in the case maintained that the suspects remain in custody because their prosecution is being handled through the judicial process, stressing that due legal procedures must be followed.
