National Patriots commend revenue mobilisation milestone, highlight infrastructure and social protection, and make case for continuity in governance.

ABUJA, November 7, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has recorded a significant revenue mobilisation milestone, with government collections reaching an unprecedented ₦33 trillion between January and October 2026, according to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele.

The disclosure represents an important development in the administration’s efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, modernise tax administration, improve compliance and establish a more sustainable foundation for financing national development.
Oyedele announced the achievement during the University of Uyo convocation lecture in Akwa Ibom State, where he addressed the growing importance of digital technology in economic management, public finance and Nigeria’s long-term competitiveness.
The announcement was confirmed in an official statement issued on November 5 by his Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Press Secretary, Maryann Duke.
According to the Ministry, improvements in digital revenue systems, particularly electronic invoicing, contributed substantially to the record collections.
The development provides further evidence of the potential benefits of modernising Nigeria’s revenue institutions, reducing administrative inefficiencies and improving the government’s capacity to collect revenues legitimately due to the public treasury.

FROM REVENUE LEAKAGES TO DIGITAL EFFICIENCY
One of the central objectives of President Tinubu’s economic reform programme has been to strengthen revenue mobilisation while reducing excessive dependence on borrowing and volatile oil receipts.
For decades, Nigeria has faced difficulties associated with revenue leakages, weak compliance systems, fragmented tax administration and inadequate technological infrastructure.
The administration’s emphasis on digitalisation represents an attempt to address these longstanding structural challenges.
Electronic invoicing, automated reporting and improved transaction verification can help revenue authorities identify discrepancies, strengthen compliance and reduce opportunities for manipulation.
The ₦33 trillion figure suggests that improvements in revenue administration are beginning to produce measurable results.
However, the Ministry has not yet published a detailed breakdown establishing the precise contributions of oil revenue, non-oil taxes, customs collections and other government receipts to the reported total.

Such information will be important in assessing the full composition and sustainability of the achievement.
A SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT FOR NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC RESET
The revenue announcement comes as the Tinubu administration continues implementing reforms intended to improve fiscal sustainability, strengthen government institutions and create a more predictable economic environment.
Higher and more efficiently collected government revenue can increase fiscal capacity to finance infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, agricultural development and targeted social interventions.
It can also reduce pressure to finance recurrent and capital obligations through additional borrowing, provided expenditure remains disciplined.
The significance of the latest announcement extends beyond the headline figure.
It demonstrates the importance of building institutions capable of collecting existing revenue more effectively, rather than relying exclusively on higher tax rates or imposing additional burdens on vulnerable Nigerians.

For households and businesses, the ultimate measure of successful fiscal reform will be whether improved collections translate into reliable electricity, better roads, accessible healthcare, quality education, employment opportunities and improved living conditions.
DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY AND THE NEXT GENERATION
Delivering his lecture, titled Digital Sovereignty and Ethics: Guarding the Economy for the Next Generation, Oyedele also highlighted the economic opportunities associated with Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
He disclosed that Nigeria recorded more than 157 million active internet subscriptions as of May 2026, citing figures from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The minister further cited estimates indicating that as much as 90 per cent of Nigeria’s data is hosted outside the country.
He warned that excessive dependence on foreign digital infrastructure could deprive Nigeria of valuable opportunities in employment, innovation, technological expertise and economic development.

Oyedele consequently advocated increased investment in local data infrastructure, cybersecurity, technical expertise and predictable regulatory frameworks.
His argument reflects the growing importance of ensuring that Nigeria does not merely consume technological services but also develops the capacity to create, manage and export them.
The minister encouraged graduating students to embrace artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and technological innovation while maintaining integrity and responsible digital conduct.
He reminded them:
“Your degree is evidence of what you have learned. Your competence will demonstrate what you can do. Your character will reveal who you truly are.”

GREATER REVENUE, GREATER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The reported ₦33 trillion collection provides an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s public finances and support the administration’s broader development priorities.
Nevertheless, revenue collection should be distinguished from revenue available for Federal Government expenditure, since Nigeria’s fiscal arrangements involve statutory distributions and other deductions.
The Federal Ministry of Finance has not yet clarified whether the entire reported amount represents gross Federation revenue or another measure of government collections.
That clarification will be important for accurate comparisons with previous years and for assessing the Federal Government’s actual spending capacity.
What remains clear is that modernising revenue administration is an important component of sustainable economic reform.
As Nigeria approaches 2027, the administration’s challenge will be to consolidate these improvements and ensure that stronger revenue performance produces tangible benefits for citizens.
The broader significance of the ₦33 trillion announcement is therefore not simply how much government has collected, but how effectively improved fiscal capacity can be converted into national prosperity.

NATIONAL PATRIOTS POSITION
The National Patriots commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on the reported ₦33 trillion revenue milestone within ten months. This development demonstrates the potential of digitalisation, stronger compliance and improved revenue administration. We believe the achievement can support Nigeria’s economic transformation, particularly when increased collections translate into infrastructure, social protection, employment opportunities and improved living standards. Sustainable national prosperity requires both efficient revenue mobilisation and responsible utilisation of public resources.
Speaking further on the significance of continuity in governance, the President of the National Patriots, Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, MFR, stated:
“When a leader is performing and delivering such commendable results, which he is ploughing into infrastructure and social protection to give Nigerians a better life, continuity is of the essence. Supporting his re-election becomes a necessity rather than a slogan. Tinubu deserves a second term without doubt, and all Nigerians should realise this and ignore baseless opposition propaganda.”
