#Tinubu and Community Mourn the Loss of Baba Adinni: Shaykh Abdul-Hafeez Abou’s Legacy Remembered

The Baba Adinni of Lagos and Chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque, Shaykh Abdul-Afis Aṣamu Abou, has passed away at the age of 101, as reported by Headlinenews.news.

Shaykh Abou breathed his last on Tuesday night, January 9, 2024. Sources indicate that the esteemed scholar’s Janazah (burial) is scheduled for today, Wednesday, January 10, at 2 pm at the Lagos Central Mosque.

Disu Kamor, Executive Chairman of the Muslim Public Affairs Centre, conveyed the news in a statement, expressing deep condolences on the profound loss to Shaykh Abou’s honorable family and the entire Lagos State Muslim community. Kamor mourned the departure of this distinguished scholar, praying for Allah (SWT) to bestow mercy upon him.

In a heartfelt message, Kamor stated, “We raise our hands in prayers to the Merciful Lord that He accepts him among the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, the righteous, and those are good companions. We also pray to the One and Only God to have mercy on the bereaved family of Shaykh Abou, his community, students, and admirers. Without a doubt, this is a great loss for the Ummah and especially for the Muslims of Lagos State to whom he spent decades teaching, guiding, and leading. We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”

Condolences have been pouring in for the departed scholar, with President Bola Tinubu expressing sorrow over the news. President Tinubu conveyed his condolences to Sheikh Abou’s family, the Muslim community in Lagos, and the Lagos State Government. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, highlighted Baba’s inspiring legacy of service and sacrifice, noting his significant contributions to the Muslim Ummah, Lagos State, and beyond.

President Tinubu remarked, “Baba dedicated his life to the service of the people. He lived a full life guided by the highest and noblest moral codes. He was a fine example for all of us. He will be sorely missed. We should take solace in Baba’s legacy and uphold his values of honesty, dignity, and sacrifice.” The President prayed for Almighty Allah to grant Baba the highest station in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Senator Idiat Adebule, representing Lagos West District, also extended her condolences, praising Sheikh Abou as a thoroughbred scholar with impacts reaching beyond the nation’s borders. She emphasized his humility, wisdom, and contributions to critical issues. Adebule expressed the sentiment that Nigeria has lost a great icon and conveyed sympathies on behalf of the people of Lagos West Senatorial District, praying for Allah to grant Baba Al-Jannah Firdaus and provide strength to his immediate family.
