TINUBU COMMISSIONS LANDMARK TETFUND PROJECTS ACROSS FOUR HIGHER INSTITUTIONS

Tinubu Commissions TETFund Projects, Says Investment in Education Will Shape Nigeria’s Future

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a series of TETFund-funded infrastructure projects across tertiary institutions in Nasarawa, Kaduna, Jigawa and Bauchi States, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.

The projects, executed through the Federal Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), form part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.

Speaking during the commissioning events, the President said sustained investment in education remains key to bridging Nigeria’s skills gap and improving long-term development outcomes.

“When you build a classroom, you build a generation,” Tinubu said. “The investment we are making in our colleges of education, polytechnics and universities today will determine the quality of every Nigerian schoolchild for decades to come.”

At the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga, the President commissioned a newly built School of Science Complex aimed at improving the training of science teachers across basic and post-basic levels. The facility includes modern reading spaces, e-library sections, staff offices and reference units.

In Kaduna State, at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Afaka, Tinubu inaugurated a remodelled Senate Building and a Biodiversity and Conservation Centre. The Senate Building is equipped with modern conference facilities, security systems, solar-powered backup, and emergency infrastructure, while the conservation centre is expected to boost research and environmental studies.

The President said the military institution would continue to receive priority attention from the federal government.

“Our Armed Forces deserve the best—in training, equipment, and the institutions that shape their character,” he said. “We will continue to invest in the Nigerian Defence Academy.”

In Jigawa State, Tinubu also commissioned a new classroom complex at Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, delivered under the 2024 TETFund Special High Impact Intervention. The facility is expected to ease overcrowding and improve the learning environment for students.

Describing polytechnics as critical to national development, the President stressed the importance of technical and vocational education in driving industrial growth.

“Our polytechnics are the engine room of Nigeria’s technical workforce,” he said. “The skills our economy needs will not come from lecture theatres alone, but from hands trained in real workshops.”

In Bauchi State, Tinubu commissioned a newly constructed students’ hostel at Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau Campus, built under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention Programme. The project, valued at over N738 million, is expected to improve student accommodation and welfare.

The President commended the Ministry of Education, TETFund, contractors, and institutional leaders for ensuring timely delivery of the projects. He also urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities properly for long-term use.

According to the Presidency, the projects reflect the Federal Government’s broader push to modernise tertiary education infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda, in collaboration with TETFund and state authorities.

Tinubu added that improving learning facilities remains central to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Nigeria’s long-term economic growth and competitiveness.
