President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday emphasized that his administration’s economic reforms and infrastructure investments are designed to secure long-term prosperity for Nigerians. “Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country; the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” Tinubu said, as quoted by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The newly built airport, a project of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, features an independent power supply, advanced aviation systems, a four-kilometre runway, and cargo facilities. Tinubu described this as a critical step in strengthening Nigeria’s infrastructure backbone.

During the visit, the President also inaugurated two aircraft for Gateway Airline, launched 1,000 electric bikes, and handed over security vehicles and agricultural tractors. He highlighted the adoption of electric bikes as a technology-driven response to modern transport needs and a shift toward cleaner energy solutions.

President Tinubu praised Nigerians for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and commended governors for prudently utilising federal resources to execute impactful development projects. He also lauded the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for reforms that improved ease of doing business and staff welfare, inaugurating a new Customs hub including barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.

Governor Abiodun said the projects reflect a shared commitment to national development and partnership with the federal government under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The Gateway International Airport stands as a defining legacy of this administration,” he noted, citing the airport’s modern facilities as the centerpiece of an emerging aerotropolis.

Abiodun also praised the President’s economic reforms, including the unification of the foreign exchange system, removal of fuel subsidies, and measures to promote fiscal discipline, attract investment, and reposition Nigeria as a competitive global destination.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s democratic leadership and urged the decentralization of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a more efficient power system. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s visionary leadership and commitment to national development.

The commissioning was attended by former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba; Senators Ibikunle Amosun and Iyabo Obasanjo; Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), and BabaGana Zulum (Borno); Ministers Festus Keyamo, Bosun Tijani, and Wale Edun; industrialists Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola; as well as traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
