President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Joseph Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in a move that signals a new ministerial adjustment within his administration.
The request was presented during plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read the presidential letter addressed to the upper legislative chamber.

In the letter, President Tinubu referenced Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to nominate ministers subject to Senate confirmation, and urged lawmakers to give the request prompt attention.
Alongside Tegbe’s nomination, the President also sought confirmation for Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State, as well as Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Tegbe was earlier nominated as Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections. Both Tegbe and his predecessor hail from Oyo State.
A seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert, Tegbe brings over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

He has also advised several government and private sector organisations on regulatory frameworks, strategic reforms, and investment structuring.
Before his nomination, Tegbe served as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China.

The Senate is expected to screen the nominees in line with constitutional requirements before confirming their appointments.
