Speaking at an induction programme for newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners in Abuja, Tinubu explained that the country’s traditional 4D foreign policy framework has been restructured to better reflect current priorities.

The original policy pillars—Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora—have now been reordered to “Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy,” signaling a stronger focus on people-centred diplomacy and national economic outcomes.

According to the President, the adjustment is necessary due to rapid changes in the international system, including geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, technological disruption, climate challenges, and evolving security threats.

He stressed that Nigeria’s diplomatic missions must now be more proactive in attracting foreign investment, strengthening global partnerships, and improving the country’s international reputation.

Tinubu, represented at the event by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, urged envoys to adopt modern diplomatic practices, including digital engagement and strategic communication, while promoting the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He also emphasized the importance of protecting Nigerians abroad, describing diaspora engagement as a key pillar of national development.

The President called on ambassadors to operate with professionalism, accountability, and measurable performance goals, noting that they are critical representatives of Nigeria’s image on the global stage.

He further encouraged them to fully participate in their induction training and thanked the National Assembly for swiftly confirming their appointments.
