President Bola Tinubu convened a meeting on Sunday with private sector leaders to address the country’s cost of living crisis and discuss strategies to mitigate the situation.

Among those present were Africa’s wealthiest individual and owner of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote; industrialist AbdulSamad Rabiu, and banker Tony Elumelu.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, delved into critical topics including the economy, food security, and national security, as conveyed by Mr. Dangote in remarks to journalists afterward.

According to an official transcript of the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized the government’s commitment to seeking additional measures to assist impoverished Nigerians during this challenging period.

“We’re examining our successes and failures to revive the economy. Our primary concern remains the welfare of our citizens, from students to farmers, traders, and beyond,” said Tinubu.

“We’re exploring new avenues to support struggling Nigerians, offering hope and assurance that economic recovery is imminent. While we don’t claim to have all the answers, we won’t be faulted for lack of effort. Rest assured, we’re committed to implementing a comprehensive plan to secure Nigeria’s economic future,” he added.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Elumelu expressed optimism that implementing the decisions made would positively impact the economy, stating, “Executing today’s resolutions will propel our economy forward.”
