Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged youths in northern Nigeria to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its ongoing economic reforms, describing the measures as necessary steps to address the country’s long-standing challenges.
Akpabio made the call in Abuja while receiving members of the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly. He said reforms such as the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market were difficult decisions but necessary to redirect resources towards key sectors of the economy.
According to him, the policies are already showing positive signs through improved government revenue, stronger investor confidence and increased interest from international partners.
The Senate President also encouraged young Nigerians to take an active role in governance rather than viewing themselves only as future leaders. He urged them to carefully assess information and participate in constructive discussions about government policies.
Akpabio further said the 10th National Assembly was committed to supporting reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
The Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly also praised Akpabio for engaging with northern youths and promoting greater political understanding between different regions of the country. The group identified continued consultation with northern youth groups, public education on federal fiscal policies and national unity as key areas of its political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
