#Tragedy in Yobe: Meningitis Claims Lives of 20 Students.

At least 20 students from various boarding public schools in Potiskum, Fika, and Fune local government areas of Yobe State have tragically lost their lives due to a suspected outbreak of meningitis. The fatalities occurred in Government Science Technical College, Government Girls Science Technical College, and Federal Government Girls College, all located in Potiskum LG.

A reliable source in the town revealed that the death toll reached 20 students, with many of the affected individuals receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum and showing signs of improvement.

Confirming the outbreak, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, stated that Governor Mai Mala Buni had instructed the state Ministry of Education to temporarily relocate to Potiskum in response to the crisis. He further confirmed that numerous students had been admitted to Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

Dr. Idris emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the necessity of proactive measures to contain the spread of the disease. He disclosed the establishment of temporary isolation centers within schools and the deployment of medical teams to investigate the outbreak’s cause and provide necessary medical care.

“We have temporarily relocated to Potiskum until all the students are in good health. Ensuring their well-being is our responsibility, and we will continue to provide all necessary support,” Dr. Idris affirmed.
