Nwifuru Warns Contractors Against Substandard Work on Ebonyi–Benue Highway
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has warned contractors handling the ongoing reconstruction of the Ebonyi–Benue Highway not to compromise on quality, insisting that his administration will not tolerate substandard work.
The governor issued the warning on Tuesday while inspecting the 118-kilometre stretch of the road, which runs through Ndibe Bridge in Afikpo, Abaomege in Onicha, Onueke in Ezza South, Ukwuachi in Ezza North, and Ishieke and Mbeke in Ebonyi Local Government Area, before ending in Gboko, Benue State.
During a stop at the proposed flyover site in Ukwuachi, Nwifuru directed the main contractor, Infouest Construction Company Ltd, to strictly follow approved engineering standards in executing the project.
He assured the contractors that the state government would continue to support them to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
The governor also praised President Bola Tinubu for ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the South-East, describing them as a major boost to the region.
“I am very excited about the activities of Mr President, especially in the area of infrastructure,” Nwifuru said.
“He understands that the primary responsibility of government is to provide basic infrastructure, and that is exactly what he is doing for Ebonyi State and the South-East.”
The Federal Controller of Works in Ebonyi State, Engr. Maxwell Okoha, explained that the planned flyover along the route would improve traffic flow and provide a long-term solution to transportation challenges on the highway.
Responding on behalf of the contractor, the Managing Director of Infouest Construction Company Ltd, Mustapha Mohammad, assured the governor that the company would deploy the necessary manpower and equipment to deliver the project within the agreed timeline.
During the inspection, Governor Nwifuru also urged people of the South-East to support President Tinubu’s administration and back his bid for a second term, saying the region was already benefiting from several federal infrastructure projects.
