Troops Rescue Pregnant Chibok Girl With Three Children

HeadlineGuy TROOPS of the Nigerian Army have rescued another abducted student of the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, identified as Lydia Simon.

On April 14, 2024, the group, #BringBackOurGirls, marked the 10th year of the abduction of no fewer than 276 girls from Chibok school by Boko Haram terrorists in 2014.

According to a 2022 status report from the group, out of the 276 abducted girls, 57 escaped captivity by jumping from the trucks transporting them, 107 were released, 16 were rescued by the military, and 96 still missing.

The Nigerian Army, on Thursday, confirmed the rescue of another schoolgirl, named Lydia, who was number 68 on the list of the abducted Chibok girls.

In a post on X by the Nigerian Army on Thursday, the service said Lydia was pregnant, adding that she was rescued along with her three children.

The statement read, “Nigerian Army troops deployed in the North-East have continued to make significant strides in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, with the recent rescue of Lydia Simon, a Chibok girl who had been held captive by Boko Haram terrorists for several years.

Lydia, who was on serial number 68 among the missing Chibok Secondary Schoolgirls, was rescued along with her three children by troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III, around Ngoshe in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Lydia was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue and claimed to be from Pemi town in Chibok.”

The statement said troops killed three terrorists in a separate operation in the state.

It said, “Meanwhile, Nigerian Army troops deployed for Counter-terrorism Counter-insurgency operations in the North-Central, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, successfully ambushed and neutralised three terrorists, who were on a mission to wreak havoc.

 “Troops responding to actionable intelligence intercepted the terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons in the Tse Kpese Community in Zaki Biam Local Government of Benue State.

“The gallant troops laid wait for the terrorists and engaged them in a gun battle, neutralising three of them. The troops also recovered three AK-47 rifles and four magazines from the terrorists.”
