#Trouble Brewing at CBN: Cardoso Fires Eight Directors Linked to Emefiele.

Eight directors at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who closely collaborated with the former governor, Godwin Emefiele, have received early retirement notices. Sources reveal that the current CBN governor, Yemi Cardoso, sanctioned this move.

These directors, some of whom were initially reassigned to FSS 2020, a division under the Governor’s Directorate located in Abuja’s Maitama District since November 24, 2023, have been instructed to leave the CBN. While some have already received their disengagement letters, it remains unclear whether they were offered early retirement or their appointments were terminated outright.

Although no confirmation of any offenses has been provided, it’s widely speculated that the main reason behind these terminations is their close association with the former governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

This decision has sparked concern among CBN staff, who fear it might signal further layoffs under the current management.

Regarding recent actions by the CBN, it’s worth recalling that over 150 staff members of the Banking Supervision Department were relocated to Lagos, eliciting varied reactions nationwide. Despite accusations of bias against northerners, the CBN defended the move as part of a comprehensive reorganization aimed at enhancing bank examination procedures and alleviating congestion at its headquarters.

Furthermore, amidst claims of political favoritism in CBN appointments, some of the affected directors are contemplating legal action, while others view their dismissal as a relief from a toxic work environment.Breaking news HeadlineHeadline news
