United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire as part of efforts to reduce tensions and open the door for broader peace negotiations.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement followed separate discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to him, both leaders consented to the temporary truce, which is expected to begin at a specified time and serve as a stepping stone toward lasting peace between the two countries.
Trump also revealed that representatives from Israel and Lebanon recently held talks in Washington, D.C., marking their first direct engagement in more than three decades.
He added that top U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have been tasked with supporting diplomatic efforts to ensure the success of the ceasefire and advance peace discussions.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing conflicts raising global concern over security and humanitarian conditions in the region.
Religious leaders have also called for peace, stressing the devastating human impact of continued violence and urging world leaders to prioritize dialogue over conflict.
