The first accident happened around 11:16 p.m. on Monday along the Ijebu-Imushin stretch of the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway. According to Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi, a Toyota Hiace bus collided with a stationary MAN Diesel truck belonging to Julius Berger after the truck’s towing chain snapped.

Four passengers in the bus—two men and two women—died instantly. The victims were taken to the State Hospital morgue in Ijebu Ode, and the Nigerian Police, Imushin Division, has taken over the investigation.

Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, particularly during nighttime travel, and to ensure that towing equipment is properly maintained.

In a separate incident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 5:48 p.m. on the same day, a woman who had recently returned from the United Kingdom died when her Toyota Camry collided with a moving truck near Christopher University. Two other passengers were injured and taken to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was deposited at Redeemed Hospital morgue.

Eyewitnesses noted that excessive speed contributed to the crash. The deceased and another female passenger had returned from the UK to attend a wedding in Abeokuta before the tragedy.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, reiterated the importance of obeying traffic rules and avoiding reckless driving. He highlighted that despite ongoing awareness campaigns and enforcement efforts, many motorists continue to ignore regulations, resulting in fatal accidents.
