WORLD CUP 2026: AFRICA CELEBRATES AS THREE NATIONS SECURE PLACES IN THE ROUND OF 32

Africa will have at least three representatives in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a series of impressive performances secured places in the newly introduced Round of 32.

With the tournament expanded to 48 teams, the top two nations from each of the 12 groups, along with the eight best third-placed finishers, progress to the knockout phase.

Among the African nations, South Africa, Senegal, and Algeria have officially advanced, ensuring the continent maintains a strong presence in the next stage of the competition. Their qualification comes after disciplined displays in the group stage against top opposition.

Other African teams remain in contention for the remaining knockout places as final group-stage fixtures are completed. The expanded format has kept qualification hopes alive for several nations, with the best-performing third-placed teams also earning passage to the Round of 32.

The Round of 32 is scheduled to begin on June 28, with the successful teams battling for places in the last 16 as the race for World Cup glory intensifies.
