France captain Kylian Mbappe has expressed confidence that Argentina skipper Lionel Messi will find the back of the net when Argentina take on Spain in the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.
Mbappe made the remark during a post-match interview following France’s defeat to England in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
The Real Madrid forward, who currently leads the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot with 10 goals, described Messi as a player who consistently delivers on the biggest stage.
According to Mbappe, he is certain the Argentine captain will score in the final, noting that Messi has a remarkable habit of finding the net.
Reflecting on his own tournament, Mbappe said he has always focused on helping his team score goals. While he acknowledged that becoming one of the competition’s highest scorers adds to his legacy, he admitted he would have preferred playing in the World Cup final instead.
He added that personal achievements are secondary to competing for the trophy, despite currently leading the Golden Boot standings by two goals ahead of Messi.
