Mixed reactions have trailed an announcement made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio concerning payment of holiday or recess allowance to the members of the 10th Nigerian Senate.
In a now-viral video, Akpabio at the plenary on Tuesday, August 98, 2023, why round off the agenda of the day announced that a token has been sent to the senators’ accounts to enjoy their holiday.
“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our various holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly,” he said.
Realising the session is not behind closed-door, his attention was quickly called by the members present and he withdrew the statement.
“In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to wish you to go on a safe journey and return,” he said.
Nigerians reacting to the development blasted the lawmakers, saying they are insensitive to the current hardship being faced by Nigerians occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, while others said that the allowance is their entitlement.
