#Zamfara State Enforces Border Curfew Amid Escalating Banditry on Katsina and Sokoto Frontiers

The Zamfara State Government has implemented immediate restrictions on movement along the state’s borders with Katsina and Sokoto, from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am.

During a press briefing in Gusau on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Manir Haidara, announced this directive, which was made during the State Security Council Meeting.

Starting today, the state government has ordered the restriction of movement along the Yankara border of Zamfara with Katsina state and the Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto state from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am daily. This measure aims to address the frequent kidnapping incidents of travelers along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway.

The state government is taking proactive steps to combat banditry and reduce kidnapping activities, especially along highways in the state. All motorists and travelers are urged to comply with the government’s directive.

Security agencies have been instructed to monitor the two borders closely and ensure strict adherence to the restrictions.

Zamfara state and the northwest region have faced severe attacks by armed bandits for several years. These attacks often target places of worship, markets, farms, and residential communities.

Earlier on Tuesday, armed bandits attacked the Samaru and Bulunku areas of Gusau metropolis in Zamfara state, resulting in the tragic killing of a provision store manager, Ashiru Maigoma, and the abduction of his pregnant wife and neighbor. The attack occurred during the early hours while Muslim worshippers were observing the Tahajjud prayer.
