The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to secure at least 10 million votes from the South-west in support of the re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Party leaders also expressed confidence that the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State will favour the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji.

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, made this known on Monday while inaugurating a 57-member campaign council for the Ekiti governorship election in Ado Ekiti. According to him, the achievements recorded by the current administration in the state have positioned the governor strongly ahead of the upcoming poll.
Bamidele noted that the election would serve as an opportunity for residents to reaffirm their support for the governor’s leadership, highlighting various development initiatives and programmes implemented since he assumed office. He added that these efforts have positively impacted the lives of millions of people in the state.

The event drew several key figures within the party, including the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the APC National Secretary, and other prominent political leaders and lawmakers from the state.
Bamidele explained that the party’s mobilisation plan goes beyond the Ekiti election, stressing that preparations are already underway for the 2027 general elections. He urged party members to intensify grassroots engagement and encourage eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards through the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

According to him, Ekiti currently has fewer than one million registered voters despite having a population of about 3.8 million. He therefore called for increased voter registration before August 2026 to strengthen the party’s electoral base.
The Senate leader further encouraged party members to actively mobilise voters across communities, emphasising that strong grassroots participation would help the APC secure a resounding victory in the governorship election and boost support for President Tinubu in the region.

Meanwhile, Governor Oyebanji said his campaign would focus on issues and development plans rather than attacks on political opponents. He also urged all parties involved in the election to respect the Electoral Act and constitutional guidelines in order to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
