The incident occurred less than a day after insurgents carried out coordinated assaults on several military positions in Marte, Jakana, Mainok and Kunduja.

According to local residents and security sources, the attackers arrived at the Doron Baga base at about 2:12 a.m. on Tuesday and engaged the troops in a fierce gun battle that lasted close to an hour.

Sources said soldiers were able to maintain control of the base throughout the confrontation, forcing the terrorists to retreat. During the clash, several insurgents were reportedly killed while troops also recovered weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing fighters.

A resident noted that there were no fatalities among the soldiers, although a rocket-propelled grenade fired during the attack landed in a nearby family house, leaving two civilians injured by shrapnel.

Another security source explained that the troops held their positions and maintained tactical superiority until the situation was brought under control around early morning.

However, one soldier sustained serious injuries during the battle, while two civilians were also wounded and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Security operatives have since heightened vigilance in the area in anticipation of possible follow-up attacks. Authorities also urged residents to continue cooperating with security forces to help combat Boko Haram activities in the region.
