The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on troops of Operation Fasan Yamma and other Nigerian Army formations to remain united, disciplined, and steadfast in their duty to protect the nation, as Muslims across the country mark Eid-el-Fitr.
Shaibu made the call on Sunday during a special Sallah luncheon organised for frontline troops within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility in Dan-Ali, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. He was represented at the event by the Commander, Infantry Corps and Centre, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut.
Describing the occasion as more than a celebration, the Army Chief said it also provided a moment for reflection on service, sacrifice, and shared responsibility among personnel.

He congratulated Muslim officers, soldiers, and their families for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, noting that the period strengthens discipline, resilience, and moral values essential to military service.
Shaibu also highlighted the significance of this year’s Ramadan coinciding with the Christian Lenten season, pointing out that both Muslim and Christian personnel engaged in fasting and spiritual reflection at the same time.
According to him, the shared experience of sacrifice and renewal further strengthens unity within the ranks.
The Army Chief paid tribute to fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire those still in service. He also acknowledged troops currently deployed in challenging operational environments, often far from their families.

He assured personnel of the Army’s commitment to improving their welfare, stressing that operational success depends not only on equipment and strategy but also on the morale and well-being of soldiers.
Shaibu also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the Armed Forces, particularly in enhancing welfare, operational readiness, and institutional development.
In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Maj.-Gen. Paul Koughna, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely effort to boost the morale of troops engaged in combating insecurity.
Representing the Katsina State Government, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mua’zu Nasiru, praised the dedication of the troops and assured continued support from the state in terms of logistics and collaboration.
The event ended with senior officers and government representatives serving meals to the troops, symbolising appreciation and solidarity.
Katsina State has continued to face security challenges, including banditry and kidnappings. Operation Fasan Yamma, a joint military effort, was launched to address these threats and restore peace in the region.
