Lagos State is set to host the second edition of the National School Volleyball Championships from April 21 to 24 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, bringing together secondary school teams from across Nigeria for a four-day sporting competition.
The tournament, organised by the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) in collaboration with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), is being supported by the Lagos State Sports Commission.

President of the NSSF, Olabisi Joseph, said in a statement that the event is aimed at developing volleyball at the grassroots level while also identifying talented young athletes who can represent Nigeria at international competitions.
She noted that the championship has continued to gain nationwide attention, with schools showing increasing interest in participating.

“We are blessed with a huge pool of talent within our school system,” Joseph said. “Volleyball is already popular among students, and competitions like this help to build discipline, teamwork, and healthy rivalry.”
According to her, sports play an important role in shaping young people beyond the classroom, adding that the tournament contributes to holistic development of students.
Joseph also revealed that outstanding players from the Lagos edition would be selected to represent Nigeria at the International School Sport Federation (ISF) World School Volleyball Championship in China.

Teams from states including Lagos, Osun, Rivers, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Ogun, Taraba, and Bauchi are expected to compete, with technical officials from the NVBF on ground to scout for emerging talent.
The maiden edition of the championship was held in Abuja, where schools from the Federal Capital Territory won both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Several standout players from that edition later represented Nigeria at the 2025 ISF World School Volleyball Championships in China.
The upcoming ISF World School Volleyball Championship is scheduled to take place in China from July 1 to July 10.
