Nigeria’s Super Falcons have moved up to 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Thursday, further strengthening their position as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team.
The team, coached by Justine Madugu, climbed one place from 37th following their recent 3-1 friendly win over Cameroon, a result that helped boost their ranking points despite limited international activity.

Across the continent, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana remain second in Africa, sitting 58th globally. They are followed by Ghana’s Black Queens in 59th, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in 62nd, while Zambia complete Africa’s top five at 64th in the world.
Nigeria’s slight rise comes in a period of reduced activity, as planned friendly matches against Cape Verde were cancelled. However, the Super Falcons had earlier recorded mixed results in a two-match friendly series against Cameroon in Yaoundé, winning one game and losing the other.
Despite the limited fixtures, Nigeria continues to dominate African women’s football rankings, maintaining a comfortable lead over their continental rivals.
On the global stage, Spain remain number one in the world, followed by the United States in second place. England, Germany, and Japan complete the top five.
