CBN POLICIES HELPED AVERT ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, STABILISE NIGERIA’S ECONOMY — REPORT

The Deputy Governor of Corporate Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Emem Usoro, has said that ongoing reforms by the apex bank have played a key role in stabilising Nigeria’s economy and preventing what she described as a potential economic crisis.

She made the remarks during her acceptance speech after receiving an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration at the combined convocation ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University, held in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Usoro said the CBN has introduced systems and policies that have helped restore stability to the economy, adding that stronger coordination between monetary and fiscal authorities has improved exchange rate stability and supported overall economic growth.

According to her, the reforms being implemented are aimed at building a more resilient and inclusive economy that can create opportunities for all Nigerians.

She also encouraged graduating students, describing them as central to Nigeria’s future development. She urged them to remain innovative, curious, and committed to using their skills to drive positive change in the country.

Usoro compared Nigeria’s situation with countries like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, noting that nations without major natural resources were able to achieve strong economic growth by investing in human capital and innovation.

She added that young Nigerians have a similar opportunity to contribute meaningfully through technology, entrepreneurship, finance, and other sectors.

During the event, which also featured other prominent Nigerians including the Aminu Ado Bayero, she announced that the CBN would provide financial support to the university to strengthen its academic and research capacity.

Usoro also advised female graduates not to be discouraged by societal limitations, encouraging them to pursue their ambitions with confidence and determination.

A total of 6,779 undergraduate and 746 postgraduate students graduated during the ceremony.
